TeenagerGoodnight Installation instructions To install TeenagerGoodnight on your computer, put the TeenagerGoodnight CD into your CD-Rom drive. It will automatically launch. If it doesn't automatically launch, go to the drive and double-click the setup.exe file. The installation process is self-explanatory. You can change the default installation location if you want. Once the program is installed on your computer, it may tell you that your computer needs to be rebooted. If it does, reboot it immediately. Configuring TeenagerGoodnight Once you've got the software installed, run the settings application from your Start/Programs menu. The icon looks like a clock and the application is called "TeenSettings." If it is the first time you've run the settings application, you will be presented with the following screen:
You must supply a password. Don't forget your password! You'll need it to disable TeenagerGoodnight if a computer shutdown time occurs and you don't want it to shutdown. You must also supply a valid registration key. You can use the key "7" to enable a 7 day evaluation of TeenagerGoodnight. You can purchase a key from our website at www.fortelsoft.com at any time to unlock full functionality of the software. Once you have entered a password and a Key and clicked on the Register button, you'll see the TeenagerGoodnight Splashscreen and then be presented with the settings window.
Each configuration option on this screen is detailed below: · Purchase Key Button -- This button only appears if you have registered a 7 day Evaluation of TeenagerGoodnight. If you have registered the full version of the software, this button will not be visible. Clicking it will launch your Web Browser and link you to a page on our server where you can purchase a Key for unlocking the full version of TeenagerGoodnight. · Change Password -- You can change your password at any time. You'll need to know the old password to make the change. Don't forget your password! If you have to write it down somewhere, do so, but keep it safe so no one can uninstall TeenagerGoodnight but you! When you have filled in the three boxes, one with your old password and the other two with your new one, click the Set Password button to update your password. · Shutdown Warning -- This option allows you to configure how long the current logged in user will have before the computer or dial-up access is shutdown. When a shutdown time occurs, a dialog box appears telling the user that the machine will shutdown or that dial-up access will go into a "prohibited" mode. They have the amount of time you specify with this setting. You have the following options: 20 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, or 5 minutes. · Check Password on Startup -- This is a special setting. As we strive to secure TeenagerGoodnight in every way possible, the fact remains that not every single door to breaking TeenagerGoodnight has been closed. This setting gives you complete control of your machine. If set to "Yes," TeenagerGoodnight will require a password every single time Windows is started. TeenagerGoodnight is secure enough for most households, but if you encounter problems with your child, setting this to yes will give you complete control of when your child uses the computer. · Selecting Days and Times for Shutdown -- On the left side of the setting applications, you'll see buttons for each day of the week. This defaults to the current day. On the right side, you'll see checkboxes for all hours of the day. You'll also see two tabs, one called Shutdown Computer and one called Shutdown Internet. To configure a computer shutdown time, simply click on the hour you want the computer to be shutdown. When you check the box labeled "2pm to 3pm" what you are saying is that the computer should be shutdown between the hours of 2pm and 3pm on the day specified in the left column. When you click on the tab labeled Shutdown Internet, the checkboxes will change and look something like what you see below. Notice that some of the check boxes are grayed out. They are grayed out because they are times already configured for the computer to be shutdown. You can choose additional hours to prohibit dial-up access when the computer isn't scheduled to be shutdown. The Shutdown Internet option apply only to dial-up connections. If you access the internet via a LAN or DSL line, the Shutdown Internet option will not currently prohibit internet access. A future release will support disconnecting DSL, LAN and all other types of access to the internet. If you are a registered user of TeenagerGoodnight, you will be notified when an upgrade is available. Upgrades are free to all registered users.
· Uncheck All and Check All -- These two buttons allow you to check all times or uncheck all times for the current day selected on the left side of the screen. · Register TG -- This button brings up the window you see below. Fill out the fields and click the Send Registration button to send your registration information to our website. By registering, you can gain access to free upgrades and be informed of new software titles as they become available.
· Enter Valid Key -- This menu item allows you to enter a valid code to unlock TeenagerGoodnight. Once your 7 day evaluation period is over, you'll need to purchase a valid key to unlock the full version of TeenagerGoodnight. You can click the Purchase Key button at any time to see current pricing and to purchase a key.
TeenagerGoodnight Functionality TeenagerGoodnight runs completely in the background when windows is loaded. You can see that it is loaded and running by moving your mouse over the clock icon on the system tray. The icon will be right next to the time at the bottom right portion of your screen. Moving your mouse over the icon will give you information about the current state of TeenagerGoodnight. It will tell you if dial-up access is currently allowed or prohibited. Right-mouse clicking on the icon will bring up different menu options depending on the state of TeenagerGoodnight. You will see Settings which will launch the settings application so you can re-configure shutdown times. You'll need your password to use the settings application, however! You will also see an option to disable TeenagerGoodnight. When choosing that option, you'll be presented with the countdown window below. After typing your password, the time icon in the system tray will change to a clock with a red X over it. When TeenagerGoodnight is disabled, you'll have the option to exit the program. You can enable or disable TeenagerGoodnight at any time as long as you know your password.
A window very similar to the one above will appear when a shutdown time is detected. If a dial-up shutdown time is detected and the timer runs out, your machine will not shutdown, but access to the internet via dial-up will be prohibited. Uninstalling TeenagerGoodnight Remembering your password is crucial if you need to remove TeenagerGoodnight from your computer. You cannot uninstall TeenagerGoodnight from any menu or from the Windows Add/Remove programs option. There is an uninstall executable on the CD. When you launch the uninstall executable, you will be required to enter your password. After entering the correct password, TeenagerGoodnight will be removed from your computer.
